NFL Betting Tips For 2010
As the NFL season approaches, I welcome in the most profitable time of my sports betting year. I have my bankrolls loaded up at the books and have dusted off my systems that have worked so well in the past.
With such a short season compared to other sports, the NFL can be the easiest game in town as far as winning for the season. But there is still enough time for the book to churn your bankroll in half if you don't win some bets.
Here are some tips for all NFL Football gamblers that should help you win enough of your wagers to show a year end profit.
1) Bet consistently. No game is worth more than any other game. I have several systems that I use, each with its own bankroll. Every bet within each system is for the same amount, although certain systems that have proven themselves over years are assigned a higher bet rate and a bigger bankroll to cover it. If you have no system at all, you should set one up so you can bet the same amount on the same situation for the season.
2) Bet on motivated teams. That is the most important thing of all. For example, everybody is going to want to beat the New Orleans Saints because they are the Super Bowl champs. Any team that plays them will automatically have an extra motivator. Being able to identify the things that motivate a team is half the battle. Both teams can be more or less motivated, so you must also be able compare the teams. I use a Motivation Chart, but you can do it any way you like. As long as you are betting on the most motivated team you will win more than you lose.
3) Choose your dogs wisely. Any bet on a motivated underdog of 11, 12, or 13 points will prove to be a good bet against the spread. Any other dogs you would do well to leave alone or qualify under some measure other than the point spread. They should at the very least be more motivated than their favored opponent.
4) Use statistical motivators for handicapping. By that I mean the big play stats. Turnovers can shift momentum within a game quickly. An already motivated team will be able to take advantage of that and destroy the point spread even if they are not strong to win the game. Special teams are another important thing to look at. If you place bets on motivated teams that have a positive turnover ratio and a special teams advantage, you have a good bet.
That should get you off to a fantastic start in 2010, or any other year. Remember that every season fields entirely new teams. Even the same group of players can have entirely different results from one year to the next. Get into the season slowly, and by week 5 you should be able to find plenty of strong bets using these tips.
